Softball positions for sectionals

It all comes down to this. The season has flown by, and on Tuesday, seeds will be set for the Section VII sectionals.

While some teams may start this week, other teams will play nonconference games to keep fresh for when the playoffs begin.

Teams from the MVAC and CVAC took to the field over the weekend to ultimately decide their seeds for sectionals.

FRIDAYCROWN POINT 15LAKE PLACID 0

CROWN POINT — Crown Point’s Madison Wayman was a single short of the cycle, and Kaitln Ross struck out 11 as the Panthers beat the Bombers, 15-0.

Wayman’s three hits went for a home run, double and triple to lead Crown Point as the team accounted for 11 hits. Addison Hurlburt added a home run, and Kaitlin Morse laced two doubles.

Ellie Shipman led Lake Placid with their only two hits, one of which was a double.

PLATTSBURGH — Plattsburgh just couldn’t connect its hits, and Beekmantown took advantage with a 14-4 win over the Hornets.

Three of the Eagles’ six hits went for extra bases as Lindsey Shanley had two doubles and Ashley Barnes had one.

Beekmantown’s Lilly Perry was effective from the circle with six strike outs. PHS’ Halle Burdo had seven.

“Both teams played hard defensively; however, we weren't able to connect our hits to score runs,” Hornets’ head coach Jenny Walker said. “Lillian Perry does a great job working the strike zone.”

LAKE PLACID — Chazy needed a late rally to defeat Lake Placid, 11-10.

Trailing 10-7 entering the sixth, the Eagles added four runs to grab the lead, holding on to defeat the Bombers.

Ellie Shipman, Addi Colby and Madison Blinn had extra base hits for the Bombers with a double for Shipman and triples for Colby and Blinn.

Willow Wood was equally effective from the circle with nine strikeouts. Chazy’s Stephanie Barrier struck out three in the win.

NORTHEASTERN CLINTON 17NORTHERN ADIRONDACK 11

CHAMPLAIN — It was an offensive battle between the Cougars and Bobcats. NCCS simply scored more runs early to defeat NAC, 17-11.

The Cougars connected more hits together as no batter had an extra base hit. Four players had two hits each.

Ally McDonald struck out five en route to her first varsity win in her first start.

“Both teams were able to hit fairly well,” NCCS head coach Carrie McComb said. “Both defenses made some great plays, as well.

"Sophomore Ally McDonald pitched a great game for NCCS, earning not only her first varsity start, but the win, as well. The offense and defense rallied around her and got the job done.”

SARANAC — Saranac played what head coach Sam Campbell said was its best defense yet in a 15-0 victory over Massena.

Irelyn Ryan and Rowan Ryan had a double each to lead the Spartans to victory.

Gracie Baxter pitched well from the circle, scattering three hits and striking out five.

“We had good pitching and hit the ball well,” Campbell said. “Our defense was the best we have been yet.”
