Former Michigan State defensive back Malcolm Bell has signed with the Saskatchewan Roughriders of the Canadian Football League (CFL). The Roughriders announced the signing of Bell on Wednesday.

Bell was selected by Saskatchewan in the first round of the CFL Draft in late April. However, he first pursued an opportunity in the NFL with the Cleveland Browns before signing with the Roughriders this week. Bell received a minicamp invite from the Browns but it appears he'll be moving forward with his CFL opportunity following that minicamp.

Bell transferred to Michigan State ahead of the 2025 season after playing four years at UConn. He appeared in all 12 games for the Spartans during his lone season in East Lansing, Mich., recording 49 tackles, five tackles for loss, one sack and six passes defended.

The Saskatchewan Roughriders will open their 2026 season next month, with their season running through the summer into the fall.
