Johannesburg to host Portuguese Festival in May

Olá, Joanesburgo! This May, Johannesburg will experience the wonders of Portuguese culture and cuisine when the Portuguese Festival rolls into the city.
Indeed, from delicious food and live entertainment to family-fun activities, the three-day festival offers attendees a chance to experience – and celebrate! – all things purely Portuguese.

Here’s everything you need to know about the event:
PORTUGUESE FESTIVAL INFO
The festival will take place on 29-31 May 2026. It will be held at the Johannesburg Expo Centre, which is located in Nasrec.
Take note of the following times:
29 May: 17:00 – 22:00.
30 May: 09:00 – 22:00.
31 May: 09:00 – 22:00.
Tickets cost R140 each for adults and R80 each for children if you purchase them online. If you pay at the gate, expect to pay R160 each for adults and R90 each for children.
Parking is available for R30 if you book your tickets online (or R40 at the gate).
FOOD, FUN AND ECLECTIC ENTERTAINMENT
“Food,” as described by the festival website, “is a cornerstone of the festival. Visitors can enjoy a wide variety of Portuguese favourites, including grilled meats, seafood, pastries and traditional desserts, paired with refreshing beverages and classic Portuguese drinks.”
Think bacalhau, seafood rice, ginjinha, prego rolls and pastéis de nata, among other mouth-watering goodies!
You also have the opportunity to browse the flea market stalls for clothing, crafts and trinkets. As for the kids, they’re sure to enjoy the helicopter rides, jumping castles and rides on the carousels.
Finally, the live entertainment features a wide mix of musicians, DJs and traditional Portuguese dancers, including:
