Clemson football lands Texas State defensive lineman transfer

Clemsonfootball has added another piece to the defensive front through the transfer portal on Tuesday, landing a commitment from defensive lineman Devarrick Woods.

The former Texas State defender announced his decision after also drawing interest from Florida State, Florida, NC State and Colorado during the process. He made a strong decision joining the Tigers.

Woods appeared in 11 games last season at Texas State, finishing with 16 tackles and one sack. The 6-foot-3, 290-pound defensive tackle was granted an additional year of eligibility by the NCAA this spring after previous stops at Hinds Community College and Texas State.

According to PFF, Woods posted a 74.2 overall grade across 177 snaps in 2025. His strongest category came as a tackler, where he earned an 80.9 grade, while also recording marks of 70.8 against the run and 66.3 as a pass rusher.

Before arriving at Texas State, Woods put together a productive junior college career at Hinds Community College. He earned first-team All-MACCC honors in 2024 after totaling 43 tackles, seven tackles for loss, four sacks and three pass breakups in nine games. He also contributed 23 tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks during the 2023 season.

Woods helps address depth at defensive tackle after an ACL injury sidelined West Georgia transfer Kourtney Kelly earlier this spring.

The addition gives Clemson 11 transfer portal additions since the end of last season, with 10 of those coming on the defensive side of the ball. Woods also becomes the fourth defensive tackle the Tigers have added from the portal, and Clemson is still expected to bring in junior college defensive tackle signee Andy Burburija this summer.
