Here are this week's nominees for The Arizona Republic's boys' and girls’ athletes of the week, sponsored by Diamond Kitchen & Bath. Nominees are based on performances in Arizona Interscholastic Association-sanctioned sports for May 4-9, 2026. Vote for the top selection in each of our polls. Voting will close at 6 p.m. on Thursday, May 14, and winners will be announced the next day on azcentral.com and in The Republic on Saturday, May 16. Here are this week's nominees, followed by poll (scroll down on poll to vote):
Girls
Faith Gentry, Phoenix South Mountain, track and field, Sr.: She won the javelin at the Division I championships on May 9, throwing 143 feet, 5 inches to move up to No. 9 all-time in Arizona for the javelin.
Abby Roth, Phoenix Country Day School, track and field, Jr.: She won the 200 (25.99 seconds) and 400-meter (57.68) state titles and was fourth in the 100 (12.95) at the Division V championships on May 9, helping lead Phoenix Country Day to the team championship.
Kennedy Lamb, Bullhead City Mohave Accelerated, softball, Sr.: She went 2-for-4 with two home runs and four RBI and struck out seven batters in an 8-1 2A playoff win over Phoenix Horizon Honors on May 7.
Boys
Tasimania “TJ” Gallahar, Chandler Arizona College Prep, track and field, Sr.: He won the long jump (24 feet, 0.25 inches), 100 meters (10.86) and 200 (21.85) state titles at the Division II championships on May 9, setting the state lead in the long jump.
Troy Babineaux, Goodyear Estrella Foothills, track and field, Sr.: He won the 100 meters (10.60) state title at the Division III championships on May 9, running the No. 3 time in the state.
Conner Hansen, Scottsdale Saguaro, baseball, So.: In three 4A playoff games, he went 6-for-10 with two home runs, two triples, a double and 17 total bases. He had four runs, five RBIs and a stolen base.
