đ„Game of the Day
The Lincoln softball team started the week with a comeback win.
But the Lions ended it with a better one.
Lincoln gave up a four-run lead and went to the bottom of the seventh down four and then went to work. Annika Sampson came up clutch for the second time this week to tie the game and set Brielle Lambert to be the hero, as her RBI single brought home the winning run in a 15-14 win over Cumberland.
The Lions flexed their muscle early against their Division I foes, scoring six runs in the first two innings. The Clippers answered back with five in the third, but Lincoln scored three times in the bottom of the fourth to take a 9-5 lead.
It wasnât big enough. Cumberland went ham in the fifth, scoring six times, then added two more in the sixth to make it 13-9.
Lincoln managed to get one run across, but were down to its final out when Chloe Landry got a single that sparked the rally. A bases-loaded walk to Lucia Whyte made it 13-11 and Sampson â who hit the game-winning home run for the Lions Sunday against South Kingstown â tied the game with a two-run single.
Cumberland had a chance to keep the game going, but couldnât convert a fielderâs choice into an out. Lambert stepped up with the bases loaded and hit a shot to the outfield that brought in the winning run.
Alicia Valois had a big night for Lincoln, going 2-for-4 with four RBI and three runs. Whyte was 2-for-4 with four RBI and three runs and Sampson went 2-for-5 with two RBI and one run. Landry had three hits and scored four times and Amanda Macomber hit a home run in the win.
Madelyn Casavant had plenty of pop in her performance, going 2-for-5 with two RBI and three runs for Cumberland. Abby OâConnell helped out, going 3-for-4 with two RBI and one run. Myla DeMartino drove in a pair and Tessa Nicastro scored twice in the loss.
The game was designated as a non-league contest, so Lincolnâs record will remain 13-0 and its in firm control of first place in Division II. Cumberland is 2-11 and in last place in Division I.
âŸBASEBALL - Division I
East Providence 2, Smithfield 1
Seven innings wasn't enough for the Townies and Sentinels to settle the score, so they played one more frame.
JJ Renaud was placed on second in the eighth and advanced to third on a ChrisCharbonneau sacrifice bunt. He came in to score on a Gavin Palumbo grounder to third to give the Townies a one run lead, and Kyle Desrosiers tossed a scoreless bottom half of the eighth to earn the win.
Renaud and Smithfield starter Jackson Chamberlin had battled through most of the game, with the score tied at one through seven innings. Renaud struck out 10 and allowed four hits through 6.2 innings. Chamberlin struck out five and scattered four hits in the loss.
Charbonneau drove in East Providence's first run with a double in the second inning. Connor Curtis brought home Smithfield's lone run in the fourth with a single to plate Chamberlin, who led off the inning with a double.
The Townies move to 11-2 in the state's top division, and the Sentinels slip to 9-7.
Narragansett 1, Westerly 0
Jackson DiFilippo's squeeze bunt in the fifth inning proved to be the difference in this pitchers duel, as he drove in Lucas Previte for the game's only run.
Both starters turned in stellar performances on the mound. Aidan Clancey earned the win for the Division II Mariners with 12 strikeouts through seven innings, giving up just two hits. For the Division I Bulldogs, Luke Gwaltney scattered three hits over five frames, with one strikeout, and Tom Fiore threw one inning of no-hit relief.
Previte reached second base after hitting a groundball that was mishandled, and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt before scoring the deciding run.
For Westerly, Gwaltney and Kevin Saglio each collected a hit in the loss.
Cranston East 6, Pilgrim 0
Down 5-4 in the bottom of the eighth inning, Anthony Campos, the ninth hitter in the Cranston East lineup, doubled home two runs and the Thunderbolts walked off with a victory over the Patriots.
Campos led the way for Cranston East with two hits and two RBI. Three other players â Yadiel Ventura, Marcel Acosta and Brailyn Rodriguez â each had an RBI in the victory.
Andres Morel started for East and threw four innings, allowing 7 hits and four runs while striking out seven and he left without a decision. Marcelo Acosta came on in the fifth and threw three scoreless innings before handing it over to Shane Linehan. Even though Linehan gave up the go-ahead run in the top of the eighth, he benefitted by the team's comeback in the bottom of the eighth to pick up the win.
For Pilgrim in the loss, Michael Blair had two hits and an RBI and Jack Cirelli had two RBI without a hit.

đ„SOFTBALL â Division I
East Providence 8, Coventry 3
Aubrey Bernardâs two-run single helped the Townies get off to the start they were looking for in an 8-3 win over the Oakers.
Trinity Provencher hit a one-out single to put the first run on the board and Bernard followed with her two-run hit, giving East Providence a 3-0 lead after one. The Townies scored in each of the next three innings and were up 7-0 before Coventry struck with three in the fifth.
Bernard had a big afternoon, going 3-for-4 with four RBI to pace the Townies. Caroline Welch finished 2-for-3 with three runs and one RBI as EP got at least one hit from eight of the nine starters.
Cassie Dulude was solid in the circle for EP, throwing a complete game with six strikeouts. The Townies are now 10-6 and in seventh in the RPI standings.
Freshman Amelia Caisse had two of Coventryâs five hits. The Oakersâ record says theyâre 4-7 and in ninth in the RPI standings, but those numbers are inaccurate. Coventry is the only Division I program that hasnât entered all its results into the RIIL website. That duty is in the hands of the head coach or athletic director.
Chariho 3, Pilgrim 1
Adriana Jeannenot gave up an unearned run in the first and then went straight beast mode in the circle and drove in the go-ahead run in the 3-1 win over the Patriots.
It was a less-than-ideal start for Chariho, which botched its first two plays in the field of the game and let Pilgrim tack on one run. The Patriots returned the favor in the bottom half to let the Chargers tie the game at one.
Jeannenot made sure Pilgrim didnât get another run. She threw a complete-game two-hitter, walking two and striking out nine. With one out in the third, she also had an RBI single that brought in Maddie Dorgan with the go-ahead run.
Dorgan went 2-for-3 at the plate and scored two of Charihoâs runs in the win. The Chargers improve to 16-0 but despite the record and two convincing wins over La Salle, sit in second behind the Rams in the RPI standings.
Natalie Fratus had both hits for Pilgrim, which is now 5-7 and in eighth in the RPI standings.
Prout 3, Bay View 2
Rachel Dias came up clutch with a two-out, two-run single that put the Crusaders up for good in a 3-2 win over the Bengals.
Prout starter Megan Gardiner and Bay View starter Lexi Fredericks were having a casual pitchersâ duel and after both surrendered runs in the fourth, the Bengals took a 2-1 lead in the top of the fifth thanks in part to a defensive miscue by the Crusaders.
Fredricks retired the first two hitters in the bottom of the fifth, but Mia Boyajian came up with a single â eventually moving to third on passed balls â and walks to Kelsea Flaherty and Sara Slitt loaded the bases. Dias stepped up and stepped up, hitting a ball to left that plated two runs.
Gardiner took over from there and pitched the final two innings with little drama. She threw all seven innings for the Crusaders, giving up six hits and two walks while striking out 14 in the win.
Fredricks allowed five hits and had four walks in her six innings of work while finishing with six strikeouts. She also drove in one of the Bay View runs.
With the win, Prout improves to 5-8 and is in 10th in the RPI standings. Bay View drops to 3-11 an is in 12th in the RPI standings.
đ„SOFTBALL â Division II
Ponaganset 5, Johnston 3
Mattea Mello outdueled Haley Boudreau and one big inning got the Chieftains the runs needed to pick up a 5-3 win over the Panthers.
Mello was spectacular in her complete-game effort, giving up one run in the first six innings before giving up two runs that didnât affect a thing. The sophomore threw seven innings and gave up nine hits and three runs, but four hits and two runs came with the Chieftains up four in the seventh.
Ponagansetâs offense did its damage with two outs in the fifth inning. Ella McKenney delivered the first big hit, a double that plated two runs and Selah Michael followed with an RBI double of her own. Two batters later, Cali LaMountain drove Michel in to make it 4-1.
McKenney finished the day 2-for-3 with two RBI and wo runs. Claire Barrett and CoraMiller both scored runs in the win.
Boudreau went 2-for-4 with one RBI and one run in the loss. She also finished the game with 11 strikeouts in the circle.
Barrington 17, Portsmouth 7
Maya Etheridge and Grace Fontaine led the Eaglesâ fireworks display as they pounded the Patriots to the tune of 17-7.
Barrington scored four runs in the bottom of the first to go up 4-2, but Portsmouth got a two-run double by Barbara Rainey and an RBI single by MiaRuggieri to take a 5-4 lead into the bottom of the second.
The game flipped there, as the Eagles put 10 on the scoreboard punctuated by a grand slam by Etheridge that made it 14-5. Fontaine took her turn going deep in the fourth with a solo home run in the fifth. In the seventh, Etheridge hit a two-run double that allowed Barrington to walk off with the win via the 10-run rule.
Etheridge was absurd, going 4-for-5 with the home run, seven RBI and three runs. Fontaine was 2-for-4 with the home run, two RBI and three runs. Grace Brucato finished 2-for-3 with two RBI and two runs and Emily Peluso went 2-for-2 with three RBI and two runs. Aubrey Paxton was 4-for-4 and drove in one run.
Barbara Rainey led Portsmouth, driving in two runs and scoring one of her own.
With the win, Barrington is now 6-5-1 and in seventh in the RPI standings. Portsmouth drops to 8-4 and remains third in the RPI standings.
BNS 13, Davies 0
Abigail Patrie owned the circle and the offense gave her plenty of support as the Broncos took care of the Patriots, 13-0.
BNS got two runs in the first on RBI singles by Avery Bousquet and Samia Shakan and Patrie didnât need any more. The freshman threw all five innings, gave up just three hits and struck out eight.
Offense came from all over for the Broncos. Macey Polacek had a big day, going 2-for-2 with four RBI, and Shakan finished 2-for-2 with three RBI and one run. Bousquet was 2-for-2 with two RBI and two runs and Serenity Stanley scored twice in the win.
BNS is now 7-7 overall and in ninth in the Division II RPI standings. Davies falls to 6-10 but earns valuable RPI points playing a D-II team. The Patriots are in 10th in the D-III RPI standings.
đ„SOFTBALL â Division III
Cranston East 14, Mt. Hope 4
The Thunderbolts scored six runs in the first inning and never looked back, eventually walking off with a 14-4 win over the Huskies.
Cranston East was prepared to play its Division-II foe, but Mt. Hope jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top half of the first. The Thunderbolts responded with six runs, tying the game on a Lexi Montalban RBI single before a two-run double by Leanna Garcia gave them the lead for good.
Cydnee Meekins provided a highlight with a home run as part of her 2-for-2 day that saw her get two RBI and score four times. Allyssa Diggert went 4-for-4 with three RBI and one run, Garcia finished 2-for-4 with three RBI and two runs and Aniah Parker scored twice in the win.
Aubrey Birchall had a nice day in defeat, going 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI for Mt. Hope.
Cranston East picks up some crucial RPI points with the win, which has it 8-5 and in fourth in the Division III RPI standings. Mt. Hope falls to 2-8 overall and is in 12th of the 13 teams in the Division II RPI standings.
Tiverton 17, Middletown 0
The Tigers scored 11 runs in the second inning and made quick work of the Islanders, 11-0.
Tiverton â which would rank fifth in the Division II RPI and had the chance to move up after winning last yearâs title but elected to remain in D-III â scored three runs in the first inning before the big second inning show. The Tigers put up three more in the third to bring the 15-run rule into play.
Lia Doster threw three innings of shutout ball, giving up just three hits. Morgan DiManno went 2-for-3 with six RBI, hitting a home run and a triple.
Tiverton is now 12-1 â its lone loss was to Lincoln, which is in first place in D-II â and in first place in the RPI standings. Middletown drops to 9-5 and is in fifth in the RPI standings.
