A fire crew in California rescued a kitten that was trapped inside a wall at an elderly resident’s home in Hesperia last week, video from the incident shows.
The crew from the San Bernardino County Fire Department said the kitten likely fell from the attic and got stuck behind the drywall. Firefighters located the kitty by using a thermal imaging camera and by playing a game of “hide-and squeak,” according to a department post to Facebook.
When the tiny cat was located, firefighters rescued it by cutting a small opening in the wall and removing the kitten. The owner, they said, expressed gratitude and didn’t mind the small hole in the drywall.
“From ducklings to kittens, springtime brings exciting opportunities and unique challenges for our crews, and we love them all,” the fire department said of the April 29 rescue.
Cats can get stuck in odd places
It may sound odd, but it’s true. Cats can commonly get stuck behind walls, among other places in the house.
Cats like to explore and can get into the wall if there’s space behind a cupboard, under the floor, or in areas of the home that are under renovation. The felines can fall into narrow spaces where they can’t climb out.
Experts warn cat owners that their pets can make their way into washers, dryers and even ovens if doors are left open for the appliances to air out, for example. It is advised for cat owners to give such machines a closer look before they use them to prevent a tragedy.
