The City’s Water and Sanitation Directorate said the work includes pipe installations, repairs, and replacements aimed at improving long-term service reliability. However, residents in affected areas are being urged to prepare for temporary outages and store water in advance.
While not all households will necessarily lose supply, the City warned that disruptions could occur without precise prediction in some areas.
Major shutdowns in Oranjezicht
Two separate pipeline projects will result in full-day water shutdowns in parts of Oranjezicht on Wednesday, 29 April.
Under the Jagersfontein project, water will be shut off from 08:00 to 20:00 in sections of Myrtle Street, Hiddingh Avenue and Prince Street.
A second shutdown linked to the Upper Orange project will affect Upper Orange Street and surrounding roads, including Belmont Avenue, Montrose Avenue and Sir George Grey Street, during the same hours.
Intermittent supply in Cape Town’s southern suburbs
Residents in Lakeside, Ocean View and Hout Bay may experience intermittent water supply on Wednesday, 29 April, between 09:00 and 16:00 due to maintenance on the local network.
Additional outages in Hout Bay will see water shut off:
- Darling Street on Wednesday, 29 April (08:00–18:00)
- Brink Street and Armour Road on Thursday, 30 April (08:00–18:00)
Nearby roads, including Andrews Street and Payne Road, are also expected to be affected.
Noordhoek, Constantia and Kommetjie affected
In Noordhoek, water will be shut off on Wednesday, 29 April, from 08:00 to 17:00 to allow for pipeline connections in Village Lane and Driefontein Lane.
Water supply in parts of Constantia will be shut down on Thursday, 30 April, from 08:00 to 18:00, affecting areas around Parish Road, Evergreen Lane and Constantia Main Road.
In Kommetjie, water will be off from 09:00 to 19:30 on Wednesday, 29 April, in areas around Lighthouse Road, Disa Avenue and surrounding streets.
Testing to affect Kraaifontein
Zero-pressure testing will also impact Kraaifontein, including Peerless Park East and West, on Tuesday, 28 April from 09:00 to 16:00.
The City said these tests are necessary to assess the network before installing pressure management infrastructure. During this time, some residents may experience low pressure or no water at all.
What Cape Town residents should doThe City is advising residents to store enough water ahead of the outages in clean, sealed containers for household use.
Officials stressed that the maintenance forms part of a broader water demand management strategy aimed at reducing leaks, preventing pipe bursts, and limiting water wastage.
“Every effort will be made to minimise the impact,” the City said, “but residents should prepare for possible disruptions during the scheduled work.”
The upgrades are expected to strengthen the reliability of Cape Town’s water supply network over the long term, even as short-term inconvenience affects thousands of households this week.
