Liam Rosenior sacked by Chelsea

Chelsea have sacked head coach Liam Rosenior just three months after appointing him on a long-term deal, following a worrying run of results that has seriously damaged the club’s hopes of qualifying for the Champions League.

The decision comes in the aftermath of a heavy 3-0 defeat away to Brighton & Hove Albion, a result that extended Chelsea’s losing streak in the Premier League to five matches without scoring - their worst run in the competition for more than a century.

Rosenior had only arrived earlier this year on a six-and-a-half-year contract after previous spells with Hull City and RC Strasbourg, but a promising start quickly faded as performances deteriorated and hopes of qualifying for the Champions League slipped away.

In the wake of Tuesday night’s defeat on the south coast, Rosenior openly criticised his squad’s display, describing it as “indefensible” and acknowledging the need for significant improvement. However, the club’s hierarchy have now opted to act swiftly in an attempt to halt the slide before the campaign concludes.

Assistant coach Calum McFarlane will step into the role on an interim basis for the remainder of the season, beginning with a crucial FA Cup semi-final against Leeds United this weekend.
