Twins place Royce Lewis on IR, call up pitching prospect Andrew Morris

Apr. 11—The Twins have placed right-hander Cody Laweryson and third baseman Royce Lewis on the injured list, the team announced Saturday.

The team called up utility player Ryan Kreidler and pitching prospect Andrew Morris from Class AAA St. Paul.

Lewis, the oft-injured first-round pick, has a sprained left knee. His 10-day IR stint is retroactive to Friday. He appeared to injure the knee while swinging during an at-bat in the Twins' victory over Detroit on Thursday, although he stayed in the game. In 12 games, he is hitting .222 with two doubles, two home runs and eight RBIs.

Laweryson has a right forearm strain. He made five appearances for the Twins and earned his first major league save on April 6 against Detroit. He has thrown 6 1/3 innings and allowed three earned runs, walked two and struck out eight.

Kreidler. 28, has played nine games for the Saints, hitting .214 with a double and a home run. He has nine walks and a .405 on-base percentage.

Morris, a fourth-round pick out of Texas Tech in 2022, is the Twins' 13th-ranked prospect per MLB.com. In two starts for the Saints this season, he has allowed one run on five hits over 7 1/3 innings. If he pitches for the Twins, it will be his major league debut.
