Jannik Sinner is currently one of the most influential players in men’s tennis, right alongside Carlos Alcaraz.

Together, they’ve formed a partnership that’s strikingly reminiscent of the early days of Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer. Their era felt unstoppable until Novak Djokovic emerged and reshaped the landscape.

Much of the talk these days is about who might step in to challenge their hold on the game, but so far, no one seems to be operating at quite their level.

This dominance has been especially clear from Sinner lately. He’s closing in on a rare achievement that only Novak Djokovic has reached before him.

Speaking on Tennis Channel after Sinner’s recent win over Tomas Machach, CoCo Vandeweghe didn’t hold back in highlighting how remarkable the Italian’s current form has been.

Sinner is currently riding a 19-match winning streak at Masters 1000 events, drawing comparisons to Djokovic’s 2015 run when he claimed the Indian Wells, Miami, and Monte Carlo titles back-to-back.

Reflecting on how close Sinner is getting to that milestone, Vandeweghe said: “Goat trying to meet another goat at this point.”

She added: “It’s crazy to see that level of tennis. The one thing that I looked at in that stat that what seemingly crazy was his set streak.”

“To be able not only to win as many matches as he has but the dominance of winning it and beating all these men in straight sets along the way in these Masters 1000s,” she continued. “It’s been two different types of 1000s. The two-weeker back to back, which is like playing back-to-back Grand Slams and then now right into the clay-court season.

“I mean, it’s just silliness and probably stats that won’t be touched. We thought maybe Roger and Rafa had stats that wouldn’t be touched. Now Novak is beating them and Novak stats are in contention with Sinner.”

Paul Annacone also weighed in on Sinner’s run, praising how he has handled the shift between different formats within such a short span.

He said: “It’s an emotional drain for the top players who so much is asked from, and then to do that and right away come back into another Masters 1000 on clay. And Sinner hasn’t lost a beat.”

“He’s truly an elite level,” Annacone went on. “And the stuff he said in an interview on court was so smart. It was just about look every day’s different today’s a positive day I lost a set but I found a way through.”

When will Novak Djokovic play his next tournament?

Even now, more than a decade removed from his remarkable 2015 run, Djokovic is still a regular presence near the top of the ATP rankings.

But at 38, he’s become more selective about his schedule, looking to extend his career as long as possible.

This shift has led to a lighter playing calendar. He skipped both Miami and Monte Carlo this year, and there’s no clear timeline for when he’ll return.

The Madrid Open seems unlikely given his recent record there. Instead, the Italian Open may be the next major event where we see the 24-time Grand Slam champion back in action.
