Credit: All Elite WrestlingWith just four days before Dynasty, AEW Dynamite served as the penultimate stop before the April pay-per-view on Wednesday night, emanating from Edmonton, Canada.
Before the show, Tony Khan announced that Kyle Fletcher would vacate the TNT Championship due to injury, with a Casino Gauntlet match set to determine a new titleholder at Dynasty. It’s an unfortunate development given the Protostar’s rise up the card and how talented he is. The competitors for the match have not yet been announced, but it should add an interesting wrinkle to the show.
Outside of that, Willow Nightingale defended the TBS Championship for the second consecutive week, this time against Queen Aminata.
There was also an unannounced battle of factions in the main event, with rivalries continuing to intensify.
With that said, let’s take a look at what went down north of the border:
AEW Dynamite Results For April 8, 2026
- Will Ospreay brawled with Jon Moxley and the Death Riders backstage to open the show. Alex Windsor, Callum Newman, and other members of United Empire arrived to help Ospreay fight them off. Windsor and Marina Shafir brawled into the arena, while the rest of the melee followed.
Ospreay said he used his head and brought his friends over from Japan. He said they’ll create chaos in Canada, with United Empire facing the Death Riders in the main event. - Don Callis said Kyle Fletcher is injured and out of action, and the TNT Championship will be up for grabs in a Casino Gauntlet match. He said he had been negotiating a match featuring Fletcher and Kazuchika Okada against the Young Bucks for Dynasty. Instead, he said he prefers the tension among competitors and teased Okada vs. Konosuke Takeshita before pulling the rug out from under it. Callis said his family will become stronger than ever in honor of Fletcher.
- Andrade El Idolo, Mark Davis, and Konosuke Takeshita def. Darby Allin, Bandido, and Jack Perry by pinfall. The Don Callis Family attacked their opponents after the match, including a low blow from Andrade to Allin, before the Young Bucks made the save. Okada and Takeshita reluctantly worked together to fend them off before turning on each other. The Rascalz took out the remaining members of the Don Callis Family to close the segment.
- Doc Sampson addressed Kenny Omega’s diverticulitis and said he is in the best shape of his life.
- TBS Championship Match: Willow Nightingale (c) def. Queen Aminata by pinfall, with Hikaru Shida watching from afar.
- A vignette highlighting MJF’s history with the AEW World Championship aired.
- Chris Jericho said he meant it when he said he’s home and planned to make it official by signing a new AEW contract. He reflected on the risks he’s taken in his career, including joining AEW in 2019, and said he will continue helping the company grow. As he prepared to sign, Ricochet interrupted and told him not to. Ricochet acknowledged Jericho’s past success but put himself over for what he has accomplished in Jericho’s absence, claiming no one wants Jericho back. Jericho dismissed him, signed the contract, and said he can choose anyone he wants to face at Dynasty, before revealing Ricochet as his opponent.
- Don Callis said Andrade will defeat Darby Allin at Dynasty. He also announced that the Young Bucks will face Kazuchika Okada and Konosuke Takeshita at the event. Takeshita agreed but said he wants Okada’s International Championship. Callis agreed and said they can settle that at Double or Nothing.
- Casino Gauntlet Qualifier: Tommaso Ciampa def. Mascara Dorada by pinfall to earn the first entry in the Casino Gauntlet match at AEW Dynasty.
- David Finlay said that while the War Dogs didn’t win last week, they made an impact by attacking Roderick Strong and Orange Cassidy backstage. Clark Connors said the group is back together, while Gabe Kidd claimed the Conglomeration has no one left and called out Mistico and JetSpeed. Finlay said they’re coming for gold at Collision.
- Thekla dismissed Jamie Hayter’s past as champion and threatened Lexi Nair. She said that now that she’s in AEW, Hayter will never hold the title again.
- Adam Copeland said he won’t shrink himself to fit into FTR’s world and vowed that he and Christian Cage will reclaim the AEW World Tag Team Championships. Cage said FTR has angered Canada and joked about visiting their mothers, and Stokely Hathaway’s as well.
As FTR entered the arena, Rocky Romero and Trent Beretta attacked Copeland and Cage. FTR joined in, and Hathaway speared Cage, stole his watch, and targeted his arm. - Darby Allin said he cares too much about becoming champion and admitted to putting up facades about not being able to win the big one. He said being the face of AEW requires being world champion. Allin added that Andrade doesn’t understand what he’s gotten himself into and said he needs this win more than anything.
- Chaos in Canada Match: United Empire (Will Ospreay, Callum Newman, Henare, and Francesco Akira) def. The Death Riders (Jon Moxley, PAC, Claudio Castagnoli, and Daniel Garcia) by pinfall.
- A vignette highlighting Kenny Omega’s career and monikers aired.
- Kenny Omega said it had been 25 years since he had been in Edmonton and praised the city’s wrestling scene. He admitted he wasn’t proud of losing his cool with MJF last week. Omega reflected on his legacy and AEW’s beginnings, saying MJF cannot rewrite history in his own image. He said he will take the AEW World Championship from MJF and right the wrongs committed under his reign, promising it will be MJF’s last title defense.
MJF responded by saying Omega can talk himself up all he wants, but deep down he knows this might be his last chance at the AEW World Championship. He questioned what Omega’s excuse will be if he loses at Dynasty and said Omega will learn he is not on the Devil’s level. Omega acknowledged how much the title means to MJF and offered a handshake, which MJF refused. When MJF attempted an attack, Omega countered, left him laid out, and took the Dynamite Diamond Ring. Omega closed by saying he will bid the crowd farewell as champion after Dynasty.
A Questionable Pinfall
The Chaos in Canada match was a ton of fun and exactly what AEW does best, these chaotic multi-man matches that spill all over the ring and ringside and lead to absolute destruction. It’s basically their version of Anarchy in the Arena.
But with Will Ospreay and Jon Moxley set to face off at Dynasty for the latter’s AEW Continental Championship, the Aerial Assassin getting the pinfall for United Empire in this match… on Moxley?
Why, just four days before their singles title match at Dynasty?
This one doesn’t make a ton of sense, especially with three other stablemates aligned with Moxley, none of whom are wrestling on the pay-per-view in Vancouver, who easily could have taken the fall.
Maybe this is a sign that Moxley is going over at Dynasty, a way to kind of 50-50 things before running it back at Double or Nothing or another show. Still, it is an interesting choice to make this close to the pay-per-view.
Darby Allin Redirects Course
AEW has done a terrific job building future challengers for the AEW World Championship, even with a top contender already in place for a pay-per-view match. It would be nice to see that same approach applied to the women’s division instead of relegating the AEW Women’s World Championship to a lone backstage promo, but the blueprint is clearly there.
Darby Allin is the latest to be built into a challenger. AEW has had to walk a tricky line with him caring about the AEW World Championship after previously saying he didn’t. Now, all of a sudden, it’s all he’s been focused on for weeks. Why? What changed?
Allin finally addressed that in a strong backstage promo, saying it has always mattered to him and that he has put up facades about not being able to win the big one. It is a clear shift from what he has said before, but it also adds layers to what is going on in his head.
With Allin leaning into this, Double or Nothing around the corner, and a potential win over Andrade El Idolo at Dynasty, this feels like the natural next step. A title challenge at the pay-per-view in Queens, New York could be right there for him.
Who Wins At Dynasty?
It’s a testament to Kenny Omega and MJF as performers that they’ve done such a strong job blurring who might actually win this.
Sure, Darby Allin as the next challenger makes sense, especially as a babyface going up against Long Island’s own. But for someone not necessarily known for his promos, Omega delivered a strong one on Wednesday night. He positioned himself as the more experienced of the two, which he is, and as someone who is one step ahead of MJF.
But that could easily play the other way at Dynasty if MJF comes in with something prepared. In storyline, that would be a smart move for a heel like him. It just comes down to what that looks like. Does MJF bring back a returning Swerve Strickland to cost Omega?
It still feels like the endgame is for the God of Pro Wrestling to reclaim the world title for one last run. Now it is just a matter of when, not if.
