Bayern set for mega record against St. Pauli
· Yahoo Sports
When FC Bayern take on FC St. Pauli this Saturday (18:30 CEST) on Bundesliga Matchday 29, they’ll be on the verge of a very special record. With 100 goals scored, Vincent Kompany’s side boast by far the best attack in the German top flight this season. One more goal would equal the all-time season record of 101 goals set by Bayern themselves in the 1971/72 campaign.

The chances of the Munich men cracking that record already on Matchday 29 against St. Pauli are pretty good. The last time FCB failed to score in a Bundesliga game was over a year ago, in the 0-0 draw at Bayer 04 Leverkusen in February 2025. A new record is also well within the realms of possibility in Hamburg, as Bayern have scored at least two goals in 26 of 28 league games this season – and three or more on 22 occassions, in fact. That’s another joint Bundesliga record, only matched by the Bavarians last season.
In general, the stats from the season so far are enough to put a smile on the face of every Bayern supporter. With 73 points after 28 matches, the Reds are enjoying their third-best Bundesliga campaign – only in 2013/14 (78 points) and 2012/13 (75) were there more points on the board at this stage. What’s more, Kompany’s men are unbeaten in 23 away league outings stretching back to last season (W17, D6). Only between 1985 and 1987 (26 games) and from 2012 to 2014 (33) have the record champions been on longer unbeaten runs on the road.
Strong record against St. Pauli
The head-to-head record gives cause for confidence that this streak will continue at the Millerntor. Having only won five of their first 10 competitive meetings with the Kiezkicker (D4, L1), Bayern have won 10 of the last 11. St. Pauli, for their part, are enduring their third-worst Bundesliga season in the club’s history with 25 points from 28 matches, and have the weakest attack in the league with 25 goals.
Caution at set pieces
Bayern will certainly have to pay attention to dead balls, however. The hosts have scored 52 percent of their goals in this Bundesliga campaign from set pieces (13 of 25), the highest proportion in the league. Meanwhile, 48 percent of the goals FCB have conceded have come from set plays (13 of 27), which is also the highest proportion.
In Bayern’s record-breaking attack, Michael Olise is chasing a best of his own. The French winger provided his 18th assist of this Bundesliga season in the 3-2 victory at Freiburg last weekend – not since detailed data collection began in 2004 has any player posted so many assists after 28 matchdays. Olise is closing in on the assist record since 2004/05 set by Thomas Müller, who set up 21 goals in the 2019/20 campaign. In total the 24-year-old has been directly involved in 29 league goals this term, a figure only surpassed by teammate Harry Kane (36). One more goal involvement would take Olise to the 30 mark, which would be the first time since detailed data collection that two Bayern players reach 30 goal involvements in one season. Only once before have two players for the same club achieved this: Wolfsburg’s Edin Dzeko (32) and Grafite (33) in 2008/09.
