The New York Mets were dealt some brutal news on Monday afternoon, as Jaun Soto, their best hitter and player overall, was reported to be headed to the injured list.

His absence is going to be a big one for the Mets, and will lead to the offense taking a big nose-dive in his absence. Soto lands on the injured list, but how long will he be out?

Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports that Soto, the Mets superstar outfielder, will be sidelined with a right calf strain for the next 2-3 weeks.

Juan Soto to miss next 2-3 weeks with calf injury

"Mets LF Juan Soto, their hottest hitter, goes to the IL with right calf strain and will be out 2-3 weeks," Nightengale reports. "Mets recall Ronny Mauricio."

This is some tough news for the Mets, as Soto is going to miss 2-3 weeks, according to Nightengale, which could leave the Mets without their superstar outfielder until May.

Of course, there is a chance that he returns a bit sooner and doesn't miss too much time if his calf strain recovery goes well.

Soto, through eight games this season, was hitting .355 with a .928 OPS with three walks, five RBIs, one home run, two doubles, and three runs scored with 0.6 bWAR.

This injured list stint for Soto is beginning on April 6th, and if it lasts 21 days, or three weeks, that would be very close to the end of the month.

If he could somehow return in time for the Mets' long homestand, beginning with a three-game series against the Minnesota Twins on April 21st, Soto's absence would be on the lower-end of the expected range.

But, he could also miss until May 1st against the Los Angeles Angels on the road. It's still too early to know when he will be ready to go for the Mets, coming off this calf issue.

For now, Soto is going to miss around 2-3 weeks as he recovers from a right calf strain after a hot start to the 2026 MLB season.
