Harrison (19-1 MMA, 3-0 UFC) went under the knife to replace a disc in her neck, which forced her out of a megafight against Amanda Nunes at UFC 324 in January. Despite being bummed about missing out on not only the chance to fight Nunes in January and also the UFC Freedom 250 card at the White House, Harrison appears in good spirits as she nears a full return to training.
"I look like a real assassin now," Harrison joked about her neck scar on "Death Row MMA" with Jorge Masvidal and Chris Duncan. "I look like someone tried to get me, but they failed."
The champ is eager to get back to the mats at American Top Team so she can begin training to fight Nunes (23-5 MMA, 16-2 UFC) in the near future. That timeline is beginning to take shape, as Harrison may be cleared to resume full training in a few weeks.
"I think I'm gonna have a CT scan like next week, and if all looks good, then I'm allowed to start drilling," Harrison said. "I think a couple of weeks after that, I'll be back to sparring."
One of the biggest women's MMA fights in history is on the horizon, should Harrison's recovery continue to go well. While it's unclear at the moment when the UFC plans to stage that fight, Harrison sent a playful message to Nunes ahead of their eventual showdown.
"Mami soon come," Harrison said.
