Here’s who will receive SASSA grant payments THIS WEEK

· The South African

The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has confirmed which beneficiaries will receive their social grants before the Easter long weekend – and who will have to wait until after the holidays.

The April 2026 payment schedule has been adjusted due to the Easter break, which runs from Friday, 3 April to Monday, 6 April.

Paid Before Easter

There is good news for older South Africans, with Older Persons Grant beneficiaries set to receive their payments on Thursday, 2 April – just ahead of the long weekend.

This means pensioners will have access to their funds in time for Easter travel, groceries and other expenses.

Paid After Easter

However, other beneficiaries will face a delay due to the holiday period.

  • Disability grants will only be paid on Tuesday, 7 April
  • Children’s grants will be paid on Wednesday, 8 April

This means millions of recipients will need to wait five to six days after the Easter weekend before accessing their funds.

Why the Delay?

SASSA explained that payment dates are structured to avoid weekends, public holidays and high-pressure days such as Mondays.

With Good Friday and Easter Monday falling within the first week of April, the agency shifted payments to ensure smooth processing and to prevent overcrowding at pay points.

Plan Ahead

SASSA has urged beneficiaries – especially those receiving disability and children’s grants – to plan accordingly for the Easter period.

The agency emphasised that while the delay may be inconvenient, the staggered system is necessary to ensure a reliable and efficient payment process for the millions of South Africans who depend on social grants.

Grant Increases Still Apply

Despite the staggered payments, beneficiaries will still receive their increased grant amounts from April, following adjustments approved by the National Treasury.

Following the national budget announcement, social grants will increase from April 2026:

  • Old Age Grant: R2,320 → R2,400 (+R80)
  • War Veterans Grant: R2,340 → R2,420 (+R80)
  • Disability Grant: R2,320 → R2,400 (+R80)
  • Care Dependency Grant: R2,320 → R2,400 (+R80)
  • Foster Care Grant: R1,250 → R1,290 (+R40)
  • Child Support Grant: R560 → R580 (+R20)
  • Grant-in-Aid: R560 → R580 (+R20)
  • SRD Grant: remains at R370 (no increase)

Support for beneficiaries

The South African Social Security Agency has reiterated its commitment to ensuring that social grants are paid on time, urging beneficiaries to report any delays at their nearest office for assistance.

The agency emphasised that the updated payment schedule and recently announced grant increases form part of broader government efforts to support vulnerable households.

SASSA said maintaining a reliable and efficient payment system remains a priority, particularly as millions of South Africans depend on social grants for their daily needs.

The measures are also aimed at ensuring stability within the national payment system, while continuing to provide critical financial relief amid ongoing economic pressures.
