Barcelona identify Egyptian forward as backup plan if top target slips away

Barcelona’s search for a new centre forward is intensifying ahead of the summer window, and the club is already preparing for multiple scenarios in case they miss out on priority targets.

In that regard, a recent report from SPORT affirms that while Julian Alvarez remains the primary target to lead the next phase of Barcelona’s attack, the club is already planning for an alternative in case this deal does not go through.

Alvarez a priority target

For now, the Argentine forward is highly valued within the club due to his versatility, ability to score goals, and intelligence across multiple attacking roles.

However, the reality of the situation is far from simple, as Atletico Madrid, who currently hold Alvarez until 2030, are expected to demand a fee exceeding €80 million.

With this in mind, the club have already identified an alternative option to ensure they are not left exposed in the market.

The report highlights that Barcelona’s Plan B is Omar Marmoush, currently at Manchester City.

The Egyptian forward is seen as a more financially viable option, with City believed to be open to a deal in the region of €50 million.

A much better deal?

Notably, Marmoush has struggled for regular playing time since arriving at Manchester City, which could make him more attainable compared to Alvarez.

From Barcelona’s perspective, this creates an opportunity to secure a player with strong attributes at a lower cost.

In terms of profile, Marmoush fits several of Flick’s key requirements, as he brings pace, energy, and a high pressing intensity.

Additionally, his versatility allows him to operate across different positions in the front line, offering tactical flexibility.

While Alvarez remains the dream target, Barcelona are clearly being practical about this approach, and we will have to wait and see how this story pans out in the summer.
