The New England Patriots haven't been as aggressive as they were in free agency last offseason, but they still have made some big moves. The biggest of the bunch saw them sign former Green Bay Packers wide receiver Romeo Doubs to a four-year, $68 million contract shortly after Stefon Diggs got released.

While it doesn't seem like Doubs was the Pats' top target in the wide receiver market, there's no doubt he will add to a wide receiver room that was lacking in the wake of Diggs' departure. And when comparing his contract to the four-year, $114 million deal Alec Pierce got from the Indianapolis Colts, former Patriots cornerback Logan Ryan thinks New England's front office did a great piece of business by bringing Doubs to town.

“Out of all the Packers receivers, we felt he was the most dangerous 1-on-1,” Ryan said, per Karen Guregian of MassLive. “He’s a really good route-runner, he’s really crafty and he has really good hands. To get him at $15-16-17 million a year, and Alex Pierce is making $30 million, are you kidding me? That’s great value. I mean, Doubs is a plug-and-play starting No. 1 receiver for cheaper than what you paid Diggs last year.”

Doubs put together his most complete season in 2025, as he racked up 55 receptions for 724 yards and six touchdowns. Those aren't numbers that will jump off the page by any stretch of the imagination, but with a higher volume, the Pats believe Doubs can improve upon those totals in 2026 and beyond.

There are still a slew of trade rumors linking New England to a trade for Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver A.J. Brown, but even if it doesn't acquire him, Ryan believes the team got a good player in Doubs. For the time being, he's headlining the wide receiver room, but it feels like the Pats will make another addition or two here before the 2026 campaign rolls around.
