The Maharashtra state women’s commission chairperson, Rupali Chaknakar, has been asked to resign from her post by Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadanvis, sources said, as reported by news agency ANI. This comes after a video allegedly showing Rupali Chakankar washing the feet of Ashok Kharat went viral on social media.

Kharat is currently under arrest in a rape and exploitation case. The timing of the feet washing video has sparked widespread outrage, with critics raising serious questions about Chakankar’s conduct.

Earlier in the day, in Pune, Gulabo Gang staged a 'jode maro' protest against Ashok Kharat, where activists demanded strict action. The demonstration was led by NCP leader Sangeeta Tiwari, who had also called for the removal of Chakankar. Tiwari had alleged that Chakankar was seen supporting Ashok Kharat and had tried to cover up for him as well in the past.

Tiwari had also claimed that if Chakankar does not resign, they would hold a protest outside the Chief Minister’s office.
