Huskers TWIS Notes: Alexis Jensen Is the Big 10 Pitcher of the Week! (And Other Softball News)
· Yahoo Sports
Introducing TWIS Notes!
(One Time Intro) From 1977-2008, in its original incarnation, there was a show called TWIB (This Week in Baseball) Notes with Mel Allen. It was basically your only baseball highlight reel, a half-hour show with clips of the week’s games along with fun facts and unusual plays. For a deeper dive check its Wikipedia page, but basically I’m stealing its acronym to make life a little easier. Here’s an early episode:
Instead of cramming everything into the weekly preview, I’m going to take the weekly notes at the top of that article and make it a separate This Week In (Husker) Softball article. Separating the two articles will make the preview a little shorter and allow us to expand a little on the weekly news. More importantly, I can publish the preview much more quickly.
Visit asg-reflektory.pl for more information.
So here’s the first Corn Nation TWIS notes – any compliments, critiques, suggestions or thoughts are welcome in the comments!
Lex Takes Home B1G Pitcher of the Week Award
On Monday, Husker freshman Alexis Jensen was recognized as the Big Ten Pitcher of the Week.
In NU’s weekend sweep of Michigan, Jensen grabbed a 2-0 record in the circle winning a start on Friday and catching the “W” in relief on Saturday. She tossed a team-high 9.0 innings and struck out 12 batters while walking only 1. Jensen logged an ERA of 3.11 and an impressive WHIP of 1.000.
Offensively, the Gretna native also put on a show at the plate going 4-for-6 for a .667 BA as well as a .714 OB% and had a home run and three RBI’s.
Jensen becomes the second Husker to bring home the award after Hannah Camenzind on Feb. 23.
TWIS Notes 3/19/2
- Jesse Farrell should be in action this weekend after missing the Michigan series in the concussion protocol after taking a foul tip between the eyes of her mask against UNO the Sunday before last. Revelle said she would have been cleared for this Sunday’s game had it not been pushed back due to weather.
- Carlie Muhlbach, the backup catcher with several starts at DP under her belt remains day-to-day with a sore back after getting tangled up with Sammie Bland while making a catch of a foul pop after replacing Farrell. Coach Rhonda Revelle had the best description of what happened to her calling it “scorpioned”.
- Laura Camenzind provides the Huskers with insane depth at catcher after starting 47 games at the position as a freshman at Arkansas. With the above two out and Olivia DiNardo still recovering from off-season surgery, Camenzind was pressed into starting all 3 games this past weekend. Revelle now supports her for president.
- This gave Katelyn Caneda the starts at second base a week after Coach Revelle became emotional in describing what she means to the team after transitioning to a reserve role following two seasons as a starter. In addition to three starts in field, Caneda appeared in the batting order in both of Saturday games and responded with a 2-for-5 performance with two 2-run HR’s, one in each game with both desperately needed when she delivered.

Look – this roster has no shortage of heart.
But talk about someone who was ready when opportunity knocked – she deserved this weekend.
And there’s half a season to go. Nice work @CanedaKatehttps://t.co/rvEdyWEhXm
- Caneda has been pinch-running regularly, but this offensive explosion puts another name into the hat for DP. The Huskers hitting depth has made this a spot with multiple candidates after the eight position players – as well as their top three pitchers who are all among the team’s leading hitters.
- Emmerson Cope began the season there but Muhlbach and Malia Thoms have also shown pop as a DP. The current hot bat is Jensen who has been DP’ing when not pitching lately.
- Sam Bland might seem off with a .273 average, but remember she was 0-15 opening weekend while suffering and recovering from the flu. She is since 12-for-29, a .414 average and .500 OB% with 2 doubles, 2 HR’s as well as 14 runs scored. She is back to the #2 spot in the order behind Jordy Frahm where the two wreaked havoc in late 2025 and the post-season.
- Speaking of Frahm, she currently leads the nation with a WAR (wins above average replacement player) of 4.9. That’s an extremely high number after only 26 games.
- Last season, the Huskers struggled to find a solid #2 starter/pitching option after Frahm. Jensen (10W-2L 3.14 ERA 64.2 IP 107 K’s-9 BB’s) and Camenzind (4-0 1.00 28 11-8) have put Jordy in a position of not having to throw near as much, increasing her stamina and giving Nebraska one of the deepest staffs in the country thus far. The team ERA is 2.21 and their WHIP (walks + hits per inning) is a low 1.147.
- Michigan State this weekend will likely be a display of the opposite – their ERA is 5.53 and their WHIP is 1.860. A solid strikeouts to walks ratio is 2:1. Nebraska’s is a stellar 5.7:1. Michigan State’s is a horrific 0.84:1.
- If you’re wondering how Nebraska has risen to #3 in the nation in RPI, here’s something that helps: Texas and Texas Tech currently rank 2nd and 3rd nationally in the polls consensus-wise. They have lost a total of 3 games between them. Nebraska is 2 of those 3 losses.
- The WarrenNolan.com website normally provides a wealth of polls, stats and metrics, but will be delayed in getting up to full speed until the NCAA basketball tournaments conclude. Stat nerds like myself, hang in there.
