Mar. 16—GRAND FORKS — The Grand Forks girls wrestling community has found another All-American.

Grand Forks Central senior Sky Kopp placed third in the 190 pound weight class at the USA Wrestling Folkstyle Nationals in Des Moines, Iowa on March 14th, earning All-American status.

Kopp went 4-1 in the tournament. Kopp is the third girl from Grand Forks Gladiators Wrestling Club to earn High School All-American status in the past four years following Emily Novak, who was National Runner-up last year and Allyssa Johnson, who was a National Champion three years ago.

The Grand Forks Gladiators saw two others receive All-American status. Charlotte Crowston, who competes with the Pembina County North program during the high school season, finished seventh at 120 pounds in the 16-and-under division.

Grand Forks Central's Rhys Safratowich took eighth at 150 pounds in the boys 16-U division. He's the first male to earn All-American honors for Grand Forks since Daniel Suda took eighth in 2021.

Gladiators coach Garrett Litzinger said it was the first time his program has left the Des Moines event with three All-American honors.

It was also a successful winter for a pair of former Grand Forks girls wrestlers. Novak, a freshman at the University of Jamestown, won the USA Wrestling Women's Collegiate Club National Championship at 180 pounds on March 5 in North Liberty, Iowa.

Novak, a three-time North Dakota state champion, pinned her way to the title with all three of her contests resulting in falls in the first 90 seconds. In the finals, she pinned Caitlyn Davis of Oklahoma State — a former NAIA national champion.

Johnson, meanwhile, closed her college season at Central Methodist by advancing to the NAIA National Championships in Park City, Kan. The former Grand Forks KnightRider fell in a 9-3 decision in the quarterfinals at 160 pounds.

The Mayville State women's basketball program is making a coaching change.

Mayville State athletic director Rocky Larson announced in late February the Comets wouldn't bring back head coach Ryan Carpenter.

Carpenter took over after Dennis Hutter left Mayville State to take an assistant coaching job at UND. Hutter was later hired as head coach at UND.

Mayville State finished this past season 1-25 with 23 consecutive losses. The Comets were 18-10 in 2024-25.

The Northland Community & Technical College women's basketball program finished third at last weekend's NJCAA Division III National Championships in Brownwood, Texas.

The Pioneers beat Fulton-Montgomery in the third-place game, led by Thief River Falls native Josie Peterson, who had 28 points. Former Badger-Greenbush-Middle River standout Kenzie Dahl had a team-high 11 rebounds.

The Pioneers have advanced to the national tournament in 13 of head coach Shannon Nelson's 15 seasons.

Minnesota-Crookston has hired former Win-E-Mac and North Dakota State athlete Kathleen (Hegg) Rustad as the Golden Eagles' new volleyball coach.

Former Fertile-Beltrami running back Isaiah Wright, who was once committed to the UND football program, has announced he's entering the transfer portal after one season at Minnesota Duluth.

Due to players experiencing weather-related travel issues returning from spring break, UND football will start spring ball on Thursday morning instead of Tuesday at the Pollard Center.
