Speaking after the match in comments shared in the post-match interview, Alcaraz admitted Medvedev delivered one of the highest-level performances he has faced.
“First of all, I just have to give credit to Daniil. I think he just played an amazing match. Since the start of the match until the end of the match, you know, the match he was playing unreal, I gotta say. I have never seen, to be honest, playing Daniil like this,” Alcaraz said.
“He deserves completely the win today. He deserves completely to get through and playing a final here. All I can say is just congratulations to him,” he added.
The Russian defeated Alcaraz 6-3, 7-6(3) in the Indian Wells semifinal, ending the world No. 1’s unbeaten start to the 2026 season.
The result also stopped a 16-match winning streak that had seen Alcaraz dominate the early part of the ATP calendar.

Alcaraz also pointed to a few key moments where the match slipped away from him.
“From my side, I just played a few games mostly in the first set that I just let go of my serve game, and part of that, I was just running all the time against him,” Alcaraz continued.
He concluded, stating: “So it was tough for me, but, you know, just proud to see that I just fought until the last ball.”
According to Alcaraz, Medvedev’s relentless baseline pressure forced him into constant defensive positions throughout the match.
Despite the defeat, the Spaniard said he was proud of how he continued battling until the final point. The loss marked his first setback of the season but also set up a highly anticipated final for Medvedev at Indian Wells.
