What they did was a simple one-for-one exchange with the New York Yankees.

According to the New York Post's Jon Heyman, lefty Tim Hill will join the United States for its quarterfinals game on Friday against Team Canada.

Hill will replace Ryan Yarbrough, who will report back to spring training with the Yankees after signing a one-year contract with the AL East club this offseason.

In Yarbrough's one appearance in the tournament, he allowed a two-run home run to Team Italy's Jac Caglianone in the 8-6 loss. He recorded two strikeouts in 2.1 innings.

Without Yarbrough, the Yankees players remaining on Team USA's roster would have been Aaron Judge, Paul Goldschmidt, and David Bednar.

Hill steps in as Yarbrough's replacement. The 36-year-old is a lefty specialist who throws a hefty dose of sinkers. Manager Mark DeRosa could use him in ground ball situations when a double play could end a scoring threat.

Hill's funky delivery and sidewinding arm action could make it difficult for a few of Canada's top hitters, Josh Naylor and Owen Caissie, to pick up the ball from the left-handed side of the batter's box.

Across 5.1 innings of work in spring training action, Hill has yet to allow a run or walk a batter, recording seven strikeouts in the process.
