There were at least seven calls made to police about Atlanta Falcons linebacker James Pearce Jr. in the days and weeks leading up to his arrest after he allegedly attacked Los Angeles Sparks forward Rickea Jackson.

Pearce was arrested in February after he allegedly rammed Jackson’s car with his Lamborghini SUV in Doral, Florida, as she was trying to get away and make it to a police station. The altercation was apparently one of several that had taken place in the weeks leading up to the incident.

According to ESPN, there were at least seven previous 911 calls made to police about Pearce. Jackson was named occasionally in the reports, but she stated that she was being stalked and harassed and that she believed Pearce had tried to break into her home. Police, according to records obtained by ESPN, told Pearce to stay away from the home of a woman described as his ex-girlfriend on Jan. 13.

Police were repeatedly dispatched to a residence described as the home of his on-again, off-again girlfriend between November and his arrest in February, per the report, though no arrests were made until the end. A pair of calls were made on Jan. 28, one stating that a burglary was in progress and that Pearce was “the subject,” though Jackson told police that she saw Pearce leaving before they arrived. Later that night, a woman called 911 and told police that she did not want Pearce to enter her home, and that she was “in fear” after the door was damaged. Pearce was not there when police arrived.

A woman called police in November and said that Pearce came to her residence, knocked on the door repeatedly and called a landline “various times,” but that she refused to open the door and told him to leave. Pearce left 20 minutes before police arrived, and the woman said that Pearce owed her $70,000.

There were two domestic disturbance calls that were heavily redacted in their respective reports. A security guard told police that Pearce was stalking his client on Feb. 2, and that he had been spotted at his clients home “on multiple occasions over the past several days.”

It was five days later that Pearce was arrested. Jackson told police that day that Pearce followed her vehicle, and even tried to open her car door at a light. When she attempted to drive to the Doral Police Department headquarters, Pearce repeatedly rammed her car with his.

Pearce allegedly got back into his car after police arrived and drove away as they tried to open the door. He eventually crashed at an intersection, fled on foot and was eventually arrested after resisting arrest.

Pearce is facing five felony charges, including two counts of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, one count of aggravated stalking, fleeing and eluding officers, and aggravated battery of a law enforcement officer. He was released on bond, and was given a stay-away order to ensure he doesn’t interact with Jackson.

Pearce, who was the No. 26 overall pick in the draft last year and finished third in the Associated Press' NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year voting last season, has maintained his innocence. If domestic violence charges go to trial, Jackson is “willing to testify” against him.

The incident is also being reviewed by the NFL under its personal conduct policy.
