Police Minister Firoz Cachalia visits victims of mass shooting in Westbury

Acting Police Minister Firoz Cachalia is visiting families affected by the latest mass shooting in Westbury, where two people were killed and three others wounded.

The shooting took place on Thursday, 5 March. Among the injured is a 15-month-old baby, who was caught in the attack.
Unknown number of suspects
According to the Ministry of Police, the victims were at the corner of Lark Spur Court and Jacaranda Court when they were approached by an unknown number of suspects who opened fire.
Spokesperson for the ministry, Kamogelo Mogotsi, said Cachalia would meet with the families of those who lost their lives and visit those who were injured and are currently receiving treatment in hospital.
“The Acting Minister of Police, Mr Firoz Cachalia, will visit the families whose loved ones were killed in the mass shooting which occurred on Thursday, 5 March 2026 in Westbury, Johannesburg,” Mogotsi said.
“The Minister will also visit those who were injured during the attack and have since been hospitalised.”
Motive unknown
Police confirmed that two people have died following the shooting, while three others remain injured.
The motive for the attack is still unknown, and no arrests have been made.
Authorities have launched an investigation as part of efforts to track down the suspects.
