Louisville Defeats Syracuse 87-61 in ACC Tourney
· Yahoo Sports
Let March Madness begin! Louisville has notched their first post-season victory in the ACC Tournament against Syracuse. The Orange were a little short-handed after star guard Dominique Darius got injured in the game against Cal the night before and their high scorer in tonight’s game, Uche Izoje, going down in the fourth quarter of this game. Still, the Cards took care of business to advance.

Louisville shot an impressive 56% from the field. Tajianna Roberts led the team with 17 points. Mackenly Randolph had another double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Skylar Jones had 12 points and 5 rebounds.
After the game Coach Walz said, “We came out shooting the ball well. I think we made our first 4 shots of the game today. When you can start off and the ball goes in then it also gets them to believe on defense. We created a few turnovers that we scored off of. But give them a lot of credit because it’s the same thing that happened in the first game. They came back in the second quarter. If Imari Berry doesn’t hit that shot there at the end of the half they outscore us 21-18. So we’ve got to get better at putting four quarters together.”
The Cards also lapsed in the third quarter. Syracuse went on a 11-0 run and cut the Cards’ lead to 10. Coach Walz said his message to the team was “Stop turning the ball over. When we attacked with a purpose and actually looked at the basket— good things happened. During a stretch there we were turning the ball over too much and as I keep telling them it’s hard to score if you keep throwing it to them. I’m not the smartest in the room but I’m not the dumbest so I keep telling them whatever color jersey you’re wearing throw it to that person. That’s high level basketball.”
Louisville will play the winner of North Carolina/Virginia Tech tomorrow at 2:30. The game can be seen on ESPN2.
