The Huskies will wrap up their home schedule on Wednesday evening with the USC Trojans coming to town. As disappointing as UW has been, USC is their own sort of dysfunctional. The Trojans have a solid 18-11 record, but they’re only a game ahead of the Dawgs in the Big 10 standings. Moreover, they are down their two top scorers. Rodney Rice has scored over 20 PPG, but has only played six games and has missed most of the season with an injury. More strangely, Chad Baker-Mazzara left USC’s last game with an injury, returned courtside to sit in the bleachers, and the team announced after the game that he is no longer with the program. The 26-year-old Mazzara has played all over the country in his collegiate career (Ohio, Florida, California, Alabama, and back to California).

Over their last five games, USC has lost each game and has hardly been competitive. Their last two outings were double-digit losses to UCLA and Nebraska. What once looked like a likely tournament team now appears to be well on the outside looking in. The teams met earlier this year and the result was one of Washington’s better wins of the season, an 84-76 away win. As much as UW has struggled relative to preseason expectations, the players have continued to play hard for Danny Sprinkle. With Rice and Baker-Mazzara absent from the USC lineup and the game in Seattle, UW has a real chance to end the season on a high note with this game and Oregon on the weekend. The game will tip off at 7:30 Seattle time and air on the Big 10 Network.

Go Dawgs!
