Everyone loves bracketology and NCAA Tournament bracket projections around this time of the year. Especially those supporting Michigan State with the Spartans a regular in the big dance for nearly 30 years now. One helpful tool to get a true understanding of how the many bracketologists feel about your team is the Bracket Matrix -- which essentially is an equation that spits out the average projection for the teams featured in bracket projections.

So where does the Bracket Matrix have the Spartans? A No. 2 seed is the answer to that. The final No. 2 seed -- one spot below Illinois and one spot ahead of Iowa State for that final No. 2 seed.

Michigan State is in the midst of a four-game winning streak and playing their way back up the NCAA Tournament seeding lines. Last week's pair of road wins at Purdue and Indiana have pushed the Spartans up from a projected No. 4 seed to start last week to a No. 2 seed, with some analysts believing a path to a No. 1 seed still being in play.

The Spartans are 24-5 overall and 14-4 in Big Ten play, with two more games remaining in the regular season this week: home vs. Rutgers and at Michigan. Then comes the Big Ten Tournament next week. In theory, it seems like Michigan State is probably two wins away across the next two weeks to lock up a No. 2 seed. One of those wins must be against Rutgers as a loss to the Scarlet Knights would be a big knock against the Spartans' resume. Then it'll come down if they can upset rival Michigan in Ann Arbor, Mich. or win their Big Ten Tournament opener against most likely Wisconsin, UCLA or Ohio State.

We will continue to monitor the Bracket Matrix at Spartans Wire and provide a similar update next week ahead of the Big Ten Tournament. As long as the Spartans continue doing what they've been doing, we should see Michigan State remain towards the top of this list.
