Newell produced 25 points, a career-high-tying 12 rebounds and one assist in a 137-117 loss to the Capital City Go-Go at the CareFirst Arena. He finished by shooting 12-of-21 from the field, including one 3-pointer, in 27 minutes, 41 seconds of action.

The 23rd overall pick tallied 19 points and nine rebounds in the second half alone. He served as an effective lob threat throughout his time on the court, while he also showcased his playmaking and ability to handle the ball and push the break in transition.

Newell has played sporadically for the Hawks, averaging five points and two rebounds in 40 appearances for coach Quin Snyder. He is one of 21 rookies to register a double-double this season after recording 12 points and 10 rebounds on Oct. 25.

The 20-year-old is averaging 22 points, 7.8 rebounds and three assists while shooting 56.3% from the field in eight games with the Skyhawks. He recorded 29 points, 12 rebounds and seven assists on Jan. 21 in a loss to the Maine Celtics.

With playing time at a premium, Newell had the chance to log extended minutes and stay in a rhythm on the court. The organization will likely look to provide him with continued opportunities in the G League when possible as part of his development plan.
