What it would likely cost to trade for Bears QB Tyson Bagent

· Yahoo Sports

There's been plenty of trade talks surrounding the Chicago Bears this offseason, which includes backup quarterback Tyson Bagent, who's garnering trade interest around the league.

This week at the NFL Scouting Combine, general manager Ryan Poles said the Bears had received a few calls about Bagent, who signed a two-year, $10 million contract extension last summer. Poles said "it's a really tough decision for us" given what he and head coach Ben Johnson think of Bagent and his contributions to the team.

Chicago is weighing the options of keeping Bagent on the roster to solidify that backup job and allowing Bagent the opportunity to contend for a starting role elsewhere. So what would it cost for the Bears to deal Bagent? According to Chicago Tribune's Brad Biggs, it would likely cost a Day 2 pick.

"It probably would take a second-round pick (or two picks equaling that value) to make it worthwhile for the Bears," Biggs wrote.

While the Bears finally appear to have solidified their starting quarterback with Caleb Williams, backup is also an important job given how quickly things can change in the NFL. Chicago feels good about Bagent as their QB2, and he quickly earned favor with Johnson. So it ultimately comes down to whether or not the Bears can find a way to offset the loss of Bagent and get value for his loss.
