Steve Kerr has pushed back on claims that Kristaps Porzingis is dealing with a serious chronic illness.
The Golden State Warriors head coach addressed reports connecting the veteran big man to postural tachycardia syndrome, or POTS. Kerr stated that the widely circulated diagnosis was incorrect.

Porzingis had previously been linked to POTS, a condition associated with elevated heart rate, dizziness and fatigue upon standing.

During an appearance on a Bay Area radio program, Steve Kerr explained that he sought confirmation prior to finalizing the trade.
He said he contacted Atlanta general manager Onsi Saleh directly to clarify the situation surrounding Kristaps Porzingis’ health.
“When I heard about the trade, I read about his POTS diagnosis and then called Onsi Saleh, who was with us; he’s now Atlanta’s GM, and he’s a good friend of mine.”
“I called him, and I said, ‘Is this POTS story real?’ And he said it’s actually not POTS. It was not POTS. So that was some misinformation that was out there.”
Kerr also noted that whatever kept Porzingis sidelined earlier in the season was unrelated to his recent illness. He described the most recent absence as a routine sickness rather than an ongoing medical condition.
Limited availability since joining Warriors
Porzingis has appeared in just one of eight possible games since joining Golden State in a trade that included Jonathan Kuminga and Buddy Hield.
He made his debut on February 19 against the Boston Celtics, recording 12 points in 17 minutes. But Porzingis has missed three straight contests due to illness and is currently listed as questionable.
Over 18 total appearances this season between Atlanta and Golden State, Porzingis is averaging 16.8 points, 4.9 rebounds, 2.6 assists, and 1.3 blocks while shooting 46.1% from the field and 36.3% from beyond the arc.
Kerr indicated that the Warriors received internal confirmation before completing the trade that Porzingis was not dealing with POTS.
