But when Detroit Tigers ace Tarik Skubal announced he would make just one start before returning to his MLB club, many fans of the tournament expressed their disappointment and confusion. 

Likely the United States No. 2 starter in the rotation, Pittsburgh Pirates superstar Paul Skenes, will make two starts at the WBC. Other members of manager Mark DeRosa's rotation could include Matthew Boyd, Nolan McLean, Joe Ryan, and Logan Webb. 

The question is, why so few starts for both Skubal and Skenes? Webb, the likely Opening Day starter for the San Francisco Giants, has an answer. 

Webb on WBC confusion: 'It's only seven games' 

Webb joined "Foul Territory" with former Major League catcher Erik Kratz on Friday to discuss the upcoming WBC. Webb confirmed he will make two starts in the international tournament, but wants to clear some things up ahead of time. 

"I feel like I got slack for that, too," Webb told Kratz about him and Skenes making two starts and Skubal making one start at the WBC. "I don't think they understand it's only seven games. If I throw two, Paul throws two, and Skubal throws one... those are studs throwing those other games." 

The United States will have a much deeper pitching staff this time around than in 2023. The roster features a total of six Cy Young Awards, including three from future Hall of Fame left-hander Clayton Kershaw. 

All of the members of the bullpen are notable, but the three that stand out are Mason Miller of the San Diego Padres, David Bednar of the New York Yankees, and Garrett Whitlock of the Boston Red Sox.
