Colby Covington wants another shot at Kamaru Usman – on the mats.
Covington (17-5 MMA, 12-5 UFC) cruised past ex-UFC middleweight champion Luke Rockhold with a 12-0 technical fall victory at RAF 5 in January, and wants to continue his grappling quests.

This time, he has his eyes on former UFC welterweight champion Usman, who defeated him twice in heated and tightly contested title fights. In their first matchup at UFC 245, Covington was stopped by Round 5 TKO. Usman was able to prevail once again in their rematch when he outlasted Covington by unanimous decision at UFC 268.

He's still got that fire and drive. He wants these title fights. He wants these big matchups. It's a huge matchup. There's a huge market for Real American Freestyle right now.
"I think he would do it. I think it intrigues him. I think he wants to settle the score. He's said for a while that he wants to do a trilogy with me. We've got unfinished business. The first fight was a complete scam. I kicked him in the liver and he called a nut shot. Then it was an early stoppage. I clearly stood up and protested right away. The second fight, a lot of people had me winning that fight 3-2 at Madison Square Garden. So it only makes sense: Let's settle this in Real American Freestyle for our trilogy, Usman."
Covington still intends on making his octagon return, with the White House event on his mind. The former interim champion hasn't competed since a TKO doctor's stoppage loss to Joaquin Buckley in December 2024.
