Former Titans GM Jon Robinson back in NFL for first time since firing, per report

Former Tennessee Titans general manager Jon Robinson is back in the NFL after more than three years away, per a report.
NFL Network insiders Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero reported on Feb. 23 that Robinson is joining the Miami Dolphins' front office as a senior personnel executive, his first position in an NFL front office since the Titans fired him as general manager in December 2022. Robinson will join first-year Dolphins general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan's staff in an advisory role.

Robinson was the Titans' general manager from 2016 to 2022, a span in which the team went under a massive turnaround. He inherited a team that owned the No. 1 pick in the 2016 NFL Draft and hadn't won a playoff game in more than a decade. The Titans went 9-7 in Year 1 of his tenure and made the playoffs in Year 2, ending the playoff win drought with a wild-card round victory over Kansas City.

In his early years, Robinson proved to be one of the league's most adept at drafting and hiring decision makers. His notable moves included drafting All-Pro contributors like tackle Jack Conklin, running back Derrick Henry, safety Kevin Byard, defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons and receiver A.J. Brown, trading for quarterback Ryan Tannehill and hiring first-time coach Mike Vrabel. Those moves paid off quickly, with the Titans making the postseason every year from 2019 to 2021, winning two AFC South titles, advancing to the AFC Championship game once and earning the No. 1 seed in the AFC.
During that span, however, some of Robinson's decisions also started affecting the team adversely. He whiffed on first-round picks in 2020 (OT Isaiah Wilson), 2021 (CB Caleb Farley) and 2022 (WR Treylon Burks). His free agent and trade decisions were less successful. The roster stagnated. And the decision to trade A.J. Brown to Philadelphia in April 2022 rather than extend him drew ire.
All this came to a head after the Titans' loss in Philadelphia that winter. Robinson was fired two days later. Overall, the Titans posted a 66-43 regular-season record and a 3-4 postseason record under his watch. In the time since he was fired, the Titans have a 12-44 record with zero postseason appearances.
Robinson interviewed for general manager vacancies in the 2024-25 cycle with the New York Jets and Jacksonville Jaguars but was not hired.
Ran Carthon, Robinson's replacement, lasted just two years with the Titans before being fired. He has since been replaced by Mike Borgonzi, who is heading into his second year with the Titans. Sullivan, the first-year Dolphins GM who's bringing in Robinson, was one of the candidates the Titans interviewed and had interest in before hiring Borgonzi.
