Reflecting on Racism From a Distance

Lukebakio began by admitting that he has often thought about how he would respond if placed in a similar situation.

“I’ve talked about this a lot with other people in the past, wondering how I would react if what happened to Vinicius happened to me, because we usually experience it from a distance…”

Doubt, Speculation, and Media Narratives

At the same time, Lukebakio was careful not to jump to conclusions. He acknowledged the swirl of speculation that inevitably follows high-profile incidents.

Despite his measured tone, Lukebakio drew a clear moral boundary.
