Justin Smith won over $1 million during his poker career competing on the World Poker Tour, but one of his most infamous moments came after the cards were dealt.

Over a decade-and-a-half ago, Smith played at the final table during a World Poker Tour event. However, despite winning a crucial hand against a poker legend Justin Smith ended up in an uncomfortable position.

A viral video resurfaced this week of Smith leaping to his feet after winning a big-money hand at the final table. The crowd’s reaction changed very quickly though once fans noticed Smith in considerable pain.

The cause for concern turns out to be warranted because Smith ultimately ended up needing surgery on his injured knee for a torn ACL. However, at the time, the poker star opted to continue playing the event.

“Look how excited he is. His fans, his friends,” the commentators said during the event. “Wait a minute. Something’s wrong out there. He’s doubled over … he’s really in pain.”

The iconic social media has been discussed by many fans online since it reemerged, including many jokes about poker not being a real sport. However, the engagement has certainly put poker back on the map.

The poker tables at Gila River Casinos in Chandler were packed during the World Poker Tour.

Smith last competed on the World Poker Tour back in 2012, but his viral memory is certainly still keeping his name relevant in the poker community.
